Situation
maintaining connections from afar requires work
General Assembly's UX Design Circuit asked us to consider a way to connect with long-distance friends and family members. After interviewing friends and family, I identified watching tv was a way to connect that was missing in 2019.
TASK
Create an app to watch live or recorded television and movies with others digitally to create "virtual togetherness".
Action
Research & Wireframes
I ran interviews, created personas, established requirements, and ran card sorting activities. I also developed a site map and action map. Following these activities, I created low fidelity wireframes on paper and ran in-person testing to validate concepts.

I created mid-fidelity wireframes and a high fidelity prototype in Adobe XD. I went through 3 rounds of usability testing to validate the prototype.
Watch with Friends enables friends to schedule times to watch live and recorded shows across various tv platforms. You can see who is online and invite friends to join your watch parties.
100% of the final test participants were able to create an event and watch with friends with no errors. Users indicated that their preferred features were the ability to view the online status of friends, the ability to pause the show for everyone, and the flexibility of the scheduling system.
