SITUATION: With 261 pages of regulation describing what licenses and registrations are needed for breeding, dealing, and exhibiting animals, this client needed a quick way to help their customers know what to apply for.
TASK: Designing and implement a public system to distill this information, including helping to define difficult terms, such as "exotic hoofstock".
ACTION: We interviewed licensees and registrants about needs. We created a style guide including example questions and components. Next, we created a flow for an efficient questionnaire. We tested user clickpaths and prioritized flows for the largest user groups.
RESULTS: The assistant distills all 261 pages of regulation into less than 5 minutes for 93% of users. The department's public search tool (which I also designed!) indicates near 13.5k active licenses and registrations as of January 2025.
